VK-1 vs. VK-1F

Postby Paul van den Heuvel » April 12th, 2012, 12:41 pm

Does anyone have any idea...Is the VK-1 and the VK-1F a drop in swap in a MiG-17F?

Will Ward is having engine issues in his ex-Chinese J-5 (MiG-17F) and it has the original WP-5 from China. The WP-5 as you know is a copy of the VK-1F. Given that it's a VK-1F, and we've sourced a domestic VK-1...I was wondering if he'd be able to cannibalize the the old engine for the AB fuel pump, aft burner section and ignition...install same on 'new' engine and have a reasonable expectation that it'd all work!

Many thanks,

Just got a call from Alby Redick at Aviation Classics, super guy! Turns out the VK-1 and the VK-1F ARE indeed different enough on the aft end so as to be incompatible. So...

Anyone got a line on a VK-1F engine for a MiG-17F?
